Wayne Almon Sather

February 14, 1952 — June 24, 2024

Wayne Almon Sather, 72, passed away on June 24, 2024 after a lengthy journey with Alzheimer’s. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Round Prairie Lutheran Church at 10AM. Visitation will be held from 5-7PM at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home on Monday, July 1, 2024 and for an hour prior to the visitation at the church. Burial will be held at Round Prairie Cemetery immediately following the service. Reverend Kent Otterman will be officiating.

Wayne was born on February 14, 1952 in Albert Lea to (it is said in a 70 year old written family history) a proud father and happy mother, Almon Sather and Dorothy (Wilhelm) Sather. He was confirmed at and attended Round Prairie Lutheran church his whole life, serving on the council. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1970 and began college at the University of Minnesota Morris, transferring to the University of Minnesota Technical College in Waseca, where he graduated with distinction in June 1975 with a degree in agricultural production. He farmed most of the rest of his life on the family farm, concentrating on crop farming and dairy production. Wayne also served as treasurer of Freeman Township for many years.

Wayne was the family historian and genealogy expert, including a trip to Germany for research. He was able to trace the family tree back to the seventh century.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Almon and Dorothy Sather.

He is survived by his brothers Irving Sather (Nancy) of Albert Lea; Laurie Sather (Debra) of Albert Lea; and Neil Sather (Renae) of Glenville. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Gabriel Sather (Marsha) of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; Elliot Pagel (Juli) of Albert Lea; Chandra Sather (Matthew) of Saint Paul; Cameron Sather (Tarrah) of Glenville; Rozamond Sather (Matthieu) of Nanci, France; Myia Young (Ricky) of Phoenix, Arizona; Tristan Sather (Jennifer) of Albert Lea; Aberdeen Rodriguez (Horacio) of Minneapolis; Evin Sather (Jordan) of Minneapolis; and Karl Sather (Kelsey Mischke) of Raleigh, North Carolina; aunt and uncle Adeline and Duane Muri of Rochester; and numerous Wilhelm and Sather cousins.

Wayne is also survived by his fishing buddies, especially Dick Hoiseth, who he considered his fourth brother.

The family would like to thank Mayo Hospice for their thorough, compassionate, and professional care given to Wayne.
