Walter Herman Lang was born on March 5, 1912, in Glenville, the son of Oscar and Jesse Herman Lang. He graduated from Albert Lea High School and attended the Dunwoody Institute in the Twin Cities. On January 26, 1938, Walter was married to Gladys Krikava at the Methodist Parsonage in Albert Lea. Walter was the manager of the Speltz Elevator in Glenville and worked there for forty years. Walter also farmed and had a deep love for the land and growing things. He had a real gift for seeing what land could produce, and making it happen. He enjoyed playing cards and checkers with friends and family. The most important thing in Walter's life was his family. He loved each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren so much. He was a member of the Glenville Senior Citizens, the Elks, and First Lutheran Church of Glenville. Survivors include his sons Tim Lang of Green Bay Wisconsin, and his special friend Mona Ericksen of Glenville, and Dr. Tom and his wife Linda Lang of Clarks Grove; daughter-in-law Violet Lang of Glenville; grandsons Todd Lang, Trace Lang, Daniel and his wife Bev Lang, Mitchell Lang, Dr. Scott and his wife Dr. Kipling Jones-Lang, Adam Lang and his girlfriend Layla Heine; granddaughters Heather and her husband Mike Lunning, Jane and her husband Evan Thompson, and Anne and her husband Nate La Plant; great-grandsons Sage Lang, Travis Lang, Justin Lang, Ethan Lunning, Caleb Lunning, Noah Lunning, and Alec La Plant; great-granddaughters Morgan Thompson, Kendall Thompson, Kaitlin La Plant, and Caroline La Plant. Walter was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Jesse Lang, his wife Gladys, his son, James L. Lang, and his sisters Donna Lang and Vida Greengo.
