Virginia Helen Mattson Flattum was born on March 31, 1920 in Mandan, ND, the daughter of Eugene and Gertrude Vogel Coombes. She lived in North Dakota as a young girl and moved to Lake Crystal, MN where she graduated from high school. On June 24, 1939 she was married to Arvid Mattson, who preceded her in death in 1963. On May 26, 1979 Virginia married Toye Flattum. Virginia worked for many years as a cashier at the Piggly Wiggly and IGA stores. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and had been a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. Virginia enjoyed bowling, dancing, old-time music, and being with her grandchildren Survivors include her children Merlene and Bill Keeler of Shorewood, MN and their children Mike, Diane, and Mark; Sven and Cherie Mattson of Henderson, MN and their children Jennifer, Sarah, Matt, Derek, and Nicole; Thomas and Melodie Mattson of Ellendale and their children Krister and Anders; and Paul and Robyn Mattson of Albert Lea and their children Egan, Alrik, and Abby. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Gertrude Coombes, her husbands Arvid Mattson and Toye Flattum, her son, Clair Mattson, grandson Steve Keeler, and brothers, John and Eugene.
