Virgil Arthur Lau was born on August 7, 1927, to Arthur and Ethel Lau in Northwood, IA. He attended country school and served in the United States Army during WWII. Virgil was united in marriage to Genevie Ione Knaack on August 22, 1948, at Glenville First Lutheran. He was a lifelong resident of Freeborn County. Virgil was very dedicated to farming. He retired from actively farming in 1991, but continued to help his son-in-law farm. Virgil was a member of First Lutheran Church in Glenville since 1948 and was also a member of the Eagle's Lodge in Albert Lea. He enjoyed the time he spent visiting with friends and family. Survivors include his wife, Genevie; daughter, Susan Steve Heideman; son, Danny Joann Lau; grandchildren, Aaron Emmy Williamson, Blake Heideman, Lindy Heideman and fiance Adam Fredrickson, Marty Kathy Lau, Jenny Paul Berg, Kris Jenny Lau, and Jason Sencer; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Willis Phyllis Lau, and Archie Lois Lau; brothers and sisters-in-law, Janice Jim Lembke, Bonnie Ronnie Rasmusson, Kathryn Carol Hanson and Arlene Knaack; many nieces and nephews. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; son, David; mother and father-in-law; sister, Madeline Hulshizer; brothers-in-law, Aldon Holstad and Richard Knaack; nephews, Stephen Holstad and Jim Lau; several aunts and uncles. Virgil will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
