Velma J. Hedensten, age 78, of Albert Lea died at her home on Thursday, February 25, 2010. Committal services will be held in Iowa at a later date. Velma Jean Hedensten was born on July 10, 1931 in Bremer County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Martha Mienders Willis. She grew up in Waverly, Iowa, and graduated from Waverly High School. She worked at the Piggly Wiggly store in Cedar Falls. In 1951 Velma was married to Wayne Ross. Following Wayne's death Velma was married to Roger Hedensten in 1991 in Freeborn, Minnesota. She was a former member of the Freeborn Congregational United Church of Christ. Velma enjoyed making floral arrangements and exhibiting them at the fair. She had been inducted into the hall of fame at Floral Hall. Velma also enjoyed taking care of others. Survivors include her children Steve and wife Carol Ross of Altoona, IA, Sue and husband Doug Reed of Des Moines, IA, and David Ross of Joplin, MO; step-children Dale Hedensten, Craig Hedensten, and Valerie and her husband Steve Seipp, all of Freeborn; grandchildren Andrew Ross, Katie Henley, and Bryan, Allen, and Scott Brendeland; step-grandchildren Jason Hedensten, Samantha Seipp, and Stephanie Seipp, great-grandchildren Moira Henley, and Tate and Blake Brendeland, step-great-grandson Josiah Hedensten; sister Bertha Busch of Waverly, and nieces and nephews. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Wayne and Roger, and her sister Irene.
