Thomas Alan Hagmann was born on October 6, 1946 to Everett and Mavis (Borland) Wehran in Albert Lea. He attended Albert Lea High School where he graduated in 1965. Tom continued his education at Austin Junior College and Mankato State where he obtained degrees of a BA in psychology, MS in education and a specialist degree in educational administration. Tom was employed as a corrections counselor for five years before becoming a teacher with the Austin Public Schools. For 29 years he worked with children of all ages who exhibited emotional or behavioral problems. His listening skill and sense of humor served him well to diffuse situations and make him a well-liked educator.
Tom loved his high school sweetheart, Judy, who he married in 1967 at First Lutheran Church. Knowing that Huntingtonâs disease may cut his life short, they made the most of the years they had together. He loved traveling and diving. Tom also enjoyed golf and bowling with Sertoma and a coupleâs league while living in Albert Lea.
Upon retiring, they followed their dream of building a home on the ocean in southern Mexico (Xcalak) where they could enjoy snorkeling, diving and the tropical life with the occasional margarita. When he talked of his hideaway, Tom was eager to share it and always offered a âcome on downâ.
