Sheila Christine Johnson was born in Oakland Township on January 8, 1912, to Charles and Ella Knudson. She attended country school and then Austin High School, graduating in 1930. In 1931, Sheila graduated from Austin Teacher's Training School. She taught school in District #34 for two years and then District #36 for three years. On June 7, 1936, Sheila was married to Oscar Johnson at the Hayward Lutheran Church with the Rev. Andrew Nordaune officiating. She was active in the Ladies Aid and Sunday school and was also a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Together, Sheila and Oscar farmed in Freeborn Co. until 1967 when they moved to northern Minnesota. They farmed there until retiring in 1974 and moving to Albert Lea. Sheila was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, their Ladies Society, Mission Circle, and the quilting group. She dearly loved her family and liked nothing better than to have them all come home on holidays and stop in whenever they could. Getting together for birthdays with family was an especially joyous time. She loved the ladies she worked with in the church and the ladies she played cards with. Survivors include her sons, LeMar Johnson of Exeland, WI, and his significant other, Doris Hoy of Austin and Dean and his wife, Sandy Johnson of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Terri Brett Hammer of Mounds View, LeeAnn Steve O'Sell of Chaska, Brenda Donahe of Owatonna, Penny Blane Hammer of Albert Lea, and Dustin Shelley Johnson of Duluth; and great-grandchildren: Dillon and Abby Donahe, Nicole, Jacob, & Mitchell O'Sell, Shelby Hammer, Mason and Brock Hammer, and Freja and Naomi Johnson. Sheila was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; a son who died in infancy; her parents; four sisters and one brother; and two sisters-in-law. Blessed be her memory.
