Russell Allan Moffitt

Memorial services for Russell Allan Moffitt, age 72, of Albert Lea were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Salem Lutheran Church.  Rev. Mark Niethammer will officiate.  Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by Freeborn County area veteran’s organizations.  Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.  

Russell died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at his home.

Russell Allan Moffitt was born on February 20, 1939 to Jesse and Laura (Fessler) Moffitt in Maple Hill, IA.  He grew up and attended school in Estherville, IA.  Russell served in the United States National Guard for 19 years.  On December 27, 1959 he was united in marriage to Marcia Winterton at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gruver, IA.  The couple moved to the Albert Lea area where Russell was employed at Farmstead Foods.  He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge.  Russell enjoyed playing guitar, fishing and going to the state park.  He especially treasured the time spent with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia; children, Todd Moffitt of Bloomington, Monty (Dawn) Moffitt of Sioux Falls, SD, and Adam (Connie) Moffitt of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Ben, Justin, Travis, Jacob, Joshua and Rebecca; brother, Keith (Helen) Moffitt of Estherville, IA and sisters, Sharon Eisenbacher of Armstrong, IA and Lelyse Smith of Estherville, IA.

  Russell was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and granddaughter, Christa Moffitt.
