Funeral services for Ronald A. Hallum, age 61, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Ascension Lutheran Church. Rev. Mark Boorsma will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the V.F.W. and American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Ronald A. Hallum was born on January 1, 1955 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of Donald and Elaine (Bakken) Hallum. He grew up in rural Albert Lea, graduating from Albert Lea High School in 1973 and attended Rochester Community College. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1976 with overseas service in Korea. He worked as a jailor in the Freeborn County Sheriffâs Department and then worked at Mrs. Gerryâs in Albert Lea. He was a member of the Eagles and the American Legion. Ronald enjoyed his Minnesota sports teams and doing daily crossword puzzles.
Survivors include his mother Elaine; sister Donna (Randy) Soper; brothers, Richard (Nina) Hallum and Donald Jr. (Katherine) Hallum; sister-in-law Gwen Hallum; nieces and nephews, Ginny Hallum, Todd Hallum, Rachel (Roger) Hallum-Montes, Rebecca Hallum, Kurt (Amanda) Soper, Daniel Soper, Alison Prescott, Cindy (Tony) Turner, Susan (Kenny) Andrews, Jason (Lais) Kepner, Christina Kepner, and Nicole Kepner; great-nieces and nephews, Ashby Hallum, Cameron Prescott, Taylor Prescott, Hannah Andrews, C.J. Turner, Cody Turner, and A.J. Kepner.
Ronald was preceded in death by his father, Donald, Sr.; brother, Robert Hallum; grandparents, Albert and Emma Bakken and Oscar and Hilda Hallum; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
