Memorial services for Roger H. Schultz, age 79 of Albert Lea will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. from the Church of St. Theodore. Father Russell Scepaniak will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion and VFW Honor Guard. Burial will be private. Roger died on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.
Roger Hilary Schultz was born on Jan. 10, 1936 in Wells, MN., the son of Gregory and Anna (Kulla) Schultz. He grew up in Wells where he attended school. Roger served his country in the US Army in Korea from 1955-57. On May 10, 1960 he was united in marriage to Corrine Johanson at St. Casimir Catholic Church, Wells. Roger was a self-employed carpenter in the local area. He enjoyed creating stained glass, wood carving, playing cards, fishing and hunting. Woodworking was a passion of his having made most of their furniture. Roger was also known for his cooking skills, especially his Bar-B-Q sauce. Roger and Corrine loved to travel and did a lot of it. He volunteered his time and talents to Habitat for Humanity and participated in a mission trip to Honduras. Spending time with his grandchildren, bird watching and feeding deer in his backyard were also important to Roger. He was a member of the VFW and St. Theodore Catholic Church.
Roger is survived by his wife Corrine; children Matt (Betsy), Mike (Diane), Gina (Geoff), Sandy, Cathy and Pat; grandchildren Isaac (Joy), Katie (Mark), Alex, Kinley, Adam, Rich, Philip, Anna, Nikki, Lance, Frank, Gregor, Noah and Ryon; great-grandson Emmett and new baby in January; mother-in-law Gladys Johanson; sister Vicky Sonnek; brothers Gene (Bonita), Vern (Fran), Dave, Don (Laura); sisters-in-law Ardean, Marilyn and Dianne, Joan (Jack), Vila, Emily (Jim), Susan (Guy), Dawn (Frank), Kim (Steve); brothers-in-law Kenyon, Jerry, Glenn (Janet) Russ (Connie), Bruce, Mark (Meredith), and Rick (Jody); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers; Felix, Leo, Fritz, Robert, Leroy and Quentin. Father-in-law, Wilbur Johanson, sisters-in-law; Jane, Marjorie, Sharon and Janice and brother-in-law Don.
