Roger Vinton Nelson was born on January 31, 1923 in Albert Lea, the son of Spinard and Anna (Olson) Nelson. He was born and raised in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1941. On June 20, 1945 Red was united in marriage to Lucile Shover in Albert Lea. Red worked as a lineman for Interstate Power for 42 years, retiring in 1985. Red enjoyed spending his time outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisher; he also enjoyed gardening and birding. Most of all, Red enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, a lifetime member of the MN Deer Hunters Association, a former president of Southern Gateway Chapter of MN Deer Hunters Association and he was a 4-H leader for many years.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy (Ron) Meyer; grandchildren, Gregory (Nicole) Meyer and Douglas (Shanda) Meyer; and great-grandchildren, Rachael, Ryan and Emily.
Red was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lucile.
