Roger Grover Light

July 20, 1928 — October 10, 2009

Roger Grover Light was born on July 20, 1928 in Freeborn County, the son of Irvin and Marie Wolpert Light. At a young age, Roger was diagnosed with polio and dealt with the effects most of his life. He attended rural school and shortly after began driving gravel truck. On Sept. 15, 1950 Roger was united in marriage to Marilyn Baker in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Roger was well known for his ability as a welder and mechanic which he used in his different employment locations. Included were Universal Milking Machines, Bill Kepple Machinery in Albert Lea, Pete's Welding Shop and Wilson and Company. It was during this time that the couple moved to the farm in rural Hartland in 1962. After his retirement Roger worked for a time at L & D Ag in Hartland. He took great pride in restoring old tractors and trucks. He enjoyed time with his many friends over coffee in Hartland, and his "one liners" will be remembered by many. Roger was always proud of his family, and will be deeply missed by them. For the past 4 years Roger has been a resident of St. John's Lutheran Home and was given remarkable care and love from the staff which the family is so thankful for. Roger is survived by his wife, Marilyn, rural Hartland, children; Julie Scott Routh, New Richland, MN., Laurie Light Dean Gisselman Eagan, MN., Randy Carol Light, New Richland, MN., and Mark Lexie Light, Albert Lea.
