Roger Morris Jergenson was born on July 31, 1924 in Carlston Township of Freeborn County, the son of George and Malinda Peterson Jergenson. He graduated from Alden High School in 1942. Following school, Roger served in the U.S. Army. He served with the 1st Army of Occupation in Japan, where he was stationed in Hiroshima after the dropping of the A-Bomb. He was a Company Clerk in the Engineer Corps. Upon his discharge Roger returned to the Albert Lea area. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Fratzke on December 30, 1946 at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Following Betty's death in 1992, Roger married Ardus Roberts on July 3, 1993. Ardus preceded Roger in death in 2000. On November 22, 2001. Roger married Anne Studier in Albert Lea. Roger worked as a shipping and receiving clerk for Sears for four years, he worked on the dock at Wilson's from 1948-52, and as a substitute mail carrier for the post office from 1952-56. He also owned and operated Albert Lea Freight Sales from 1956-60, sold life insurance for Lutheran Mutual, and worked tiling farm fields for the Miller Brothers in Twin Lakes. In the 1970's and 80's he worked doing carpentry for Gene Moen of Lake Mills. Roger and Betty were active in their Amway business from 1963 until he retired in 2000. He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis, the CBMC from the 1960's to the present, and served that organization as a past president. He joined Missionary Fellowship in 1955. He was a member of the American Legion. Roger belonged to First Lutheran Church and to Ascension Lutheran Church. In 1973 he joined the Assemblies of God Church. He was an active member there, serving both on the church board, and the Albert Lea Christian Acedemy school board. He was a member of the SPIRE board from 1993-1995, and volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels. Roger will be remembered as a kind, gentle husband, father, and grandfather who loved life and his family. Through his life he remained committed to doing all he could to advance the cause of Christ. Survivors include his wife Anne, his children Kathleen Doug Jr. Peak, Kristine Halverson, Brian Jergenson, and Kevin Karen Jergenson; grandchildren David Charity Peak and their children Jordan and Kennedy, Andrew Nicole Peak, Sarah Scott Jansen, Amy Halverson, Noah Jergenson, Elizabeth Jergenson, and Derek Dannen; step-children Nicola Brent Buchannan, Randolph Susan Studier, Jane Edward Pecora, Timothy Sandra Studier, Angela Nicolas Olson, Daniel Catherine Studier, Lori James Billick, and Jill Paul Hagen; many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; sisters Evelyn Novak, Violet Hoeg, and Doris Gerry Peterson; brother Obert Lavonne Jergenson; sisters-in-law Alice Jergenson and Norma Kauffmann; as well as many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Betty and Ardus, his sister Frances Beckman, brother Marion Jergenson, brothers-in-law Joe Novak, Clarence Beckman, Vern Kauffmann, and Donald Hoeg; and sister-in-law Marvel Kenneth Berg. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
