Peter C. Vanderploeg was born on May 17, 1931 in Crookston, Minnesota, the son of Richard and Marie Middle Vanderploeg. He served his country in the U. S. Army for two years, and then went to trade school in Fargo, ND, where he met his beautiful wife of 50 years. On September 8, 1956, Peter was married to Kathleen Rust in Casselton, ND. Peter lived in southern Minnesota most of his life. He owned and operated a body shop. Peter and Kathleen were foster parents for 27 years. They also volunteered in a children's home in Georgia for eight years. Peter was a former member of the Wesleyan Church and had served there as an interim pastor. He was currently a member of Faith Baptist Church, and a former member of the Y's Men. He enjoyed camping, volunteering, and woodworking. Survivors include his wife Kathleen, children Lowell Kathy Vanderploeg of Grinnell, IA, Jimmy Cherie Vanderploeg of Naples, FL, Donald LeoneVanderploeg of Glenville, MN, and Brenda Scott Ellenberger of Colombia City, IN; ten grandchildren; brothers and sisters Winifred Meelker, Sadie William DeBoer, Ray MaxineVanderploeg, and Jeanette Vande Brake; and many nieces and nephews. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Cornelius.
