Perry Grant Brostad

Interment for Perry Grant Brostad, age 83, of Albert Lea will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.  

Perry died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Home surrounded by his family. 

Perry Grant Brostad was born December 13, 1927, to John and Mary(Byam) Brostad in Webster, South Dakota.  Perry grew up in Webster where he graduated High School.  He also attended Mankato Commercial College for 2 years.  On July 18, 1945, Perry enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Barrow while stationed in Pearl Harbor.  On December 17, 1949, Perry was united in marriage to Carlyce Ellen Hawkinson in Watertown, South Dakota.  He worked as an accountant for many years in SD, ND, IA and MN.  In 1971, Perry and Carlyce moved to Albert Lea where he worked at Land O’ Lakes Inc. until his retirement in 1986.  After he retired he continued to work at the Albert Lea Tribune as an accountant until January of 1990.  Perry was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church.  He was a member of the VFW and American Legion and was a volunteer from 1991-2000 for Ride Services Senior Resource.  Perry enjoyed traveling and spending his winters in Arizona with Carlyce.

Survivors include his wife, Carlyce; children, Cary (Linda) Brostad, Sherry (Ron) Arvidson, Dennis (Ratsamy) Brostad. Kim (Phyllis) Brostad, Denise Schultz, Marilee (Anthony) Majerus, and Peggy Buechler; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, David (Betty) Brostad and Mary Linnea Czmowski; sister-in-law, Clarice Brostad; and many nieces and nephews. 

Perry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary; sons-in-law, Herb Schultz and Mike Buechler; siblings, Karl (Ruth) Brostad, Byam (Margaret) Brostad, Jean “Beansie” Brostad, Jane Maass and Iowa Jacobs; and brother-in-law, Arnold Czmowski.  

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
