Pearl Anna Virchow Mittag was born on November 28, 1921 to Ervin and Anna Knaack Virchow in Freeborn County. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran and attended country school near Gordonsville. On Nov. 28, 1940 she was united in marriage to Gaylen August Mittag at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Pearl and Gaylen were life long farmers in the Myrtle area. She was an active member of the churches ladies groups. After retiring she and Gaylen moved into a townhouse in Albert Lea where she made many new friends around the neighborhood. Pearl enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and was famous for her yummy Apple pies and cinnamon rolls. She loved having her grandchildren come and stay with her. She had many beautiful flowers in her yard. Pearl spent many hours tending to her vegetable garden and canning in the fall. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her children, Gerald Judy Mittag, Wabasha, MN., Darlene Laverne Hauge, Glenville, MN., Marilyn Dwayne Anderson, Mankato, MN. and Raymond Lydia Mittag, Glenville, MN. 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and step great-grand-children. Sisters-in-law; Fern Virchow, Glenville, MN. and Luetta Wolff, Chandler, AZ. Brother-in-law, Wilbur Mittag and many nieces, nephews and friends. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gaylen, mother-in-law, Olga Broitzman, sister, Doris Virchow at age 5, brothers; Arley, Russell and Glen Virchow. Nephew Bruce Virchow, sisters-in-law; Bertha Virchow, Delores Virchow and Evelyn Mittag, brothers-in-law; Luverne Mittag and Edward Wolff, sons-in-law, Paul A. Schmidt and Larry Williamson.
