Opal Elaine Bergerson was born February 4, 1929, to Oscar I. and Emma Davidson Flugum in Albert Lea. She was a lifelong resident of Freeborn County and attended Albert Lea and Ellendale schools, graduating from Ellendale High School in 1947. Opal graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture in 1949. On August 26, 1956, she was united in marriage to LaVerne A. Bergerson in Geneva. Opal worked for several grocery businesses in the area - Leonard Johnsrud in Albert Lea, Mayfield, Bob's Food Store in Clarks Grove, and Wintergreen Food Co-op in Albert Lea for 22 years. She was a member of the Community Lutheran Church in Geneva and the Geneva Senior Citizens. Opal enjoyed music and handiwork. She had tatted many crosses for the baptismal towels for the Church. One of the highlights of Opal's life was waiting on Louis Armstrong in 1952 when she was working at Johnsrud's Grocery in Albert Lea. Survivors include her husband, LaVerne of Clarks Grove; sons: Peter Bergerson of Clarks Grove, Aaron and wife, Connie Bergerson of Albert Lea, and Mark and wife, April Bergerson, also of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Chris, Ashley, Tracy, Travis, Danielle, Sara, Cheyenne, Leah, and Amanda; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Fern Wahlers of Geneva and Irene and husband, Shirly Sletten of Owatonna; brothers: Virgil O. and wife, Nancy of Castle Rock, CO, Robert and wife, Barbara of Dallas, OR, and Rolland and wife, Cindy of Aiea, HI; and many nieces and nephews. Opal was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sara; and brother, Virgil L.
