Funeral services for Muriel Frances Pitt Luikart, age 96, of Walker, MN will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012 at Community United Methodist Church in Monticello, MN. Rev. Muriel died Monday, May 28, 2012 at May Creek Memory Care Center in Walker, MN.
Muriel Frances Pitt Luikart was born March 15, 1916 in Minneapolis to Walter and Oletha Berglund. She attended school in Minneapolis and graduated from North High School in 1933. After high school she attended and graduated with honors from the McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis. Using her musical ability, Muriel played piano and organ at various churches for many, many years and at hundreds of weddings and funerals. June 19, 1937 she was united in marriage to Donald Pitt in Minneapolis where they made their home. In 1948 they moved to Stewartville, MN., where they owned and operated a hardware store for 5 years. In 1953 they moved to Monticello and bought the Our Own Hardware Store and worked side by side until their retirement in 1972. The couple traveled extensively and eventually spent their winters in Texas. In 1987 they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Don died in 1992 and in 1998 Muriel married Kenneth Luikart, a life-long friend and they resided in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Due to health issues Muriel moved into May Creek Memory Care in Walker Minnesota in 2010. Muriel was greeted by her Lord on Memorial Day, May 28, 2012 at the age of 96. She was Past Matron of Monticello Chapter 33, Order of the Eastern Star and was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.
Muriel is lovingly remembered by husband Kenneth, son Douglas (Carol) Pitt of Walker, MN, daughter Bonnie (Louie) Sinko of Elk River, MN. Grandchildren Dana (Cindy) Pitt of Walker, Diane (David) Smith of Fairview, TN, Scott (Melanie) Robideau of Andover,MN, Kirk (Leia) Robideau of Ramsey, MN, and 8 Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Donald Pitt.
