Mildred Ophaug was born September 27, 1912, in Michigan City, ND, to Esten and Mabel Boyd Ophaug. She moved with her family to Albert Lea in November of 1919. Millie was employed by Enderes Tool until 1935. She then worked as the bookkeeper at Gambles from 1935 until April of 1970. From May of 1970 until her retirement in March of 1982, Millie worked in the accounting department of the Albert Lea Tribune. Millie was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school, was active in her circle, SLCW, Sew and Tell, and SOS. She also belonged to the Sons of Norway. Millie loved to travel, especially with her sister, Cora. They traveled to many places including Norway, made frequent trips to California and Florida to visit their brothers, and took many "up north" trips with their brother, Lee and his family. Millie was very artistic and loved to paint, rose male, and make crafts, especially Christmas ornaments which are now family heirlooms. Survivors include her brother, Elvern Snookie of St. Petersburg, Florida; her brother, LeRoy and his wife, Jeanette of Sartell, MN; many nieces and nephews, including Kari Ophaug Johnson of Sartell and Nancy Ophaug Beers of Albert Lea; and dear family friend, Agnes Hedstrom. Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Cora; and her brother, Orville. Millie spent the last years of her life as a resident of Knutson Place, St. John's Lutheran Home, and finally Oak Park Place in the Autumn Lane unit. She was a kind, gentle, and loving person who always wore pink and smelled of roses. Millie will be missed by her family and those devoted caregivers who took such loving care of her in these final years.
