Funeral services for Michael âMickâ Jaquette, age 68, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at St. Theodoreâs Catholic Church. Father Timothy Reker and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Guttenberg, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 â 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 12, 2013 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by local servicemenâs organizations, VFW and American Legion.
Mick passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013 at his home from MM/bone marrow cancer.
Michael Jaquette was born on August 17, 1944, in Guttenberg, IA, the oldest of four children of Dale âMikeâ and Eunice (Schweikert) Jaquette. Mick grew up in Guttenberg, IA where he graduated from high school. He then attended Upper Iowa University. On August 13, 1966 Mick was united in marriage to Judy Bowen in Dubuque, IA. Mick served with HQ Company of the 389th Engineer Battalion USAR, in Dubuque from 1966 until 1972 and served as Commander of Leo Carey Post 56, Albert Lea. He was a big supporter of the Legion Boys State program and was selected as a representative to the Hawkeye Boys State in 1962.
Mick was a sales and marketing representative for Sun Oil Company from 1966 â 1977. He owned and operated Mikeâs Service Station from 1977 â 1990 in Guttenberg, IA. While in Guttenberg he served on the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital Board. Mick later worked for Rainbo Oil Company of Dubuque. In 1995 Mick and his wife moved to Albert Lea where he worked as a sales director for South Minnesota Oil Co. until his retirement in February of 2012.
Mick was a member of St. Theodoreâs Catholic Church, the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Day Breakers Kiwanis, Albert Lea Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and was Secretary of SCMN SCORE 710.
Survivors include his wife Judy Jaquette of Albert Lea; children Michael (Tracy) Jaquette of LaCrescent, MN, Bryan (Nietra) Jaquette of Center City, MN, and Jason (Jenny) Jaquette of Urbana, IA; grandchildren Tara, Andrew and Erin of LaCrescent, Emma of Center City, and Brandon and Breanna of Urbana, IA; brother Mark (Deborah) Jaquette of Florance, AL; sisters Mary (Bill) Frommelt of Guttenberg, IA and Marsha (Bob) Silhacek of Delano, MN; sister-in-law Helen (Mike) Balfe of Dubuque, IA; brother-in-law Phil (Linda) Schwinn of Kieler, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents Mike and Eunice and in-lawâs Chick Bowen and Bessie (Phil) Schwinn.
In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred in Albert Lea to Adopt a Student, St. Theodoreâs School or Leo Carey Post 56 Honor Guard and in Guttenberg memorials are preferred to St. Maryâs School, the American Legion or VFW.
