Melvin Anderson

Albert Lea

Mel was born in Duluth, MN on August 26, 1929, lived in Proctor, MN, and went to school there until the 9th grade.  In the “Famous Moody Band”, he was part of the drum major team and played the saxophone.

He spent one year at Shenandoah Middle School in Miami, FL, and the balance of high school in Two Harbors, MN, where he was instrumental in starting the marching band as drum major.  He graduated in 1947.  He then moved back to Miami and went for one year to the University of Miami.  He worked for Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and joined the Miami National Guard, becoming a Master Sergeant.

Because he enjoyed gardening and landscaping, he started to work for a landscaping company as an accountant and remained there until he moved to Jensen Beach, FL in 1974.  There he worked for a gas company as their accountant until he retired in 1995.

In 2006 he moved to Pinehurst, NC, and then to Albert Lea, MN in 2022, where he passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Nursing Home on June 13, 2023.  His favorite pastime was playing the piano and organ.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother Alfred C. Anderson and Gladys M Anderson along with brothers Charles and James Anderson.

He is survived by his sister, Helen Matthews, nephews and nieces and grand nephews and grand nieces.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Melvin's care team at Good Samaritan and Mayo Hospice.
