Maxine Oyer Halvorsen was born April 23, 1923, to Leo and Laura Oyer Halvorsen in Winnebago County, IA. She was baptized at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in Worth County, IA. Maxine attended school in Leland, IA until 1933 when the family moved to Worth County. In 1934, they moved to Freeborn County where she attended District #84 and was confirmed at Lime Creek Lutheran Church. Maxine graduated from Emmons High School in 1940. She worked at a defense plant in New Brighton and at a shipyard in Oregon during World War II and then as a linotype operator at the West Publishing Co. in St. Paul until her retirement. Maxine enjoyed taking long walks and all of nature. She belonged to a hiking club for many years and enjoyed attending many lectures and concerts. Maxine collected swans and would often attach a cutout of a swan to her letters and cards. Survivors include her brothers: Leo, Jr. "Bud" and his wife, Alma, Paul and his wife, Darlene, all of Emmons, and Rodney and his wife, Barbara of Kiester; sisters, Mescal and her husband, Don Gooden of Emmons and Ingri and her husband, Russell Krech of Caledonia; brother-in-law, Edward Woynowskie of Grand Junction, CO; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins; and her aunt, Nellie Johnson of Albert Lea. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Doris; sister-in-law, Rose Marie; nephews, Kent and Todd Halvorsen; 3 great-nephews; and 2 great-nieces.
