Maurine Leila (Brekke) Adix was born August 10, 1915 on a farm south of Frost, MN, to Ruby (Nelson) and Bernhard (Ben) Brekke. She was baptized and confirmed at South Blue Earth Lutheran Church. Her family moved into Frost where she attended grade school. In 1933 Maurine graduated from Blue Earth High School and in 1934 from Blue Earth Teachers Training. She taught country school in Faribault and Freeborn counties.
Maurine was married to Max Adix at the Emerald Lutheran Church of Frost on October 2, 1940. They farmed the home farm near Mansfield until 1982 when they retired and moved into Alden. They were members of Mansfield Lutheran Church. She was a former Sunday School teacher and past president of the A.L.C. Women, Altar Guild and circles. Max passed away in 1994. Maurine moved to Knutson Apartments in Albert Lea in 1997 and to St. John's Lutheran Home in 2009. Maurine died on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at St. Johnâs Lutheran Home at the age of 98. Maurineâs life was centered around the love for her family. She was known by many for her excellent cooking and baking. Her personal favorite was ice cream and chocolate. Education was a priority and she was always interested in how and what you were doing in school. âWheel of Fortuneâ was her favorite TV show.
Survivors include her children Maxine Adix (Omer) Hamer of rural Clarks Grove, MN, David (Loretta Schaper) Adix of rural Alden, Kathleen Adix of Plymouth, MN, and daughter-in-law Debra Yost Adix of rural Alden; grandchildren Jolynn Hamer (Richard) Tautges of Rochester, MN, Brian (Jenny Syverud) Adix of Parker, SD, Lynnette Adix (Jeffrey) Jenson of Winthrop, MN , Stephanie Adix of St. Paul and special friend Ryan Engebretson of Scarville, IA, and Tyler Adix of Brookings, SD; great-grandchildren Ross and Carly Kay Tautges of Rochester, MN, and Kaiden, Kerynn, and Kohen Jenson of Winthrop, MN; sisters-in-law Joyce Brekke of Edina, MN, and Ann Adix of Yorktown, TX; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Christabel (Alfred) Jacobs of Fergus Falls, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Max, son Steven, parents, infant brother Edwin, sister June Brekke, sister and brother-in-law Lila and Rudy Kravetz, brother DeVere Brekke, brother and sister-in-law Sherwood and Arlene Brekke, brothers-in-law and sisters-in- law Pastor Paul and Hope Adix, Helen and Martin Elvebak, and Carl Adix Jr.
Memorials, if so desired, may be designated to the Mansfield Church Cemetery Fund or the Stained Glass Window Fund.
