Matthew Muschler

Matthew Ries Muschler, age 62, passed away on August 10, 2024, from complications of chronic alcohol use disorder, a condition he struggled with most of his adult life. This condition complicated his relationships with family and friends leaving us with feelings of regret, deep sadness, and missed opportunity. There was another Matt we knew, and we choose to remember and honor that man.

Matt was a wonderful friend to many. His positive and caring demeanor made him easy to be with, and he was quick to smile and laugh. He was smart and clever in conversation, a whiz at word puzzles, and he loved gardening, reading, and the Vikings. Matt loved animals and joyously took care of the pets of family and friends. He had a special affection for Shady, a beautiful springer spaniel. When his nieces and nephew were young he was a wonderful uncle, favoring them with his undivided attention and providing wonderful Christmas surprises. 

Matt will be interred at St. Theodore’s Cemetery at a graveside service on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 10:30AM.

Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Joan Muschler, his brother Jeff, and nephew Michael.

He is survived by brothers Tom, Steve, and Eric, and their spouses Kay, Patti, and Karen, and sister Ann Brehmer and husband Steve. Also niece and nephews John and Paul Brehmer, Mark and Daniel Muschler, Jordan and Ryan Muschler, and Robert, Katherine, Adam, and Elizabeth Muschler.
