Mary Helen Petersen was born on March 22, 1924 in Albert Lea, the daughter of Ralph and Marie (Sorenson) Leidal. She was a lifetime resident of Albert Lea, and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she had been baptized and confirmed. On June 30, 1943, Mary was united in marriage to Harry âPatâ Petersen at Trinity. Mary worked as a custodian at city hall and the library for 25 years, retiring at age 70. She enjoyed doing puzzles with her grandchildren and making floral arrangements. Mary especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children James (Jill) Petersen of Hastings, Cathy Petersen of Blue Earth, and Mark (Yun Cha) Petersen of South Korea; grandchildren Chet Petersen of Hastings, Holly (Jason) Studier of Sun Prairie WI and their mother Donna Petersen of Albert Lea, Jackie, Kelley, and Jenny Petersen of South Korea; great-grandchildren Gabriel, Noah, Paul, and Ellie Studier; sisters Gladys Sigurdson of Albert Lea and Darlene âDollyâ (Lyle) Bird of Freeborn; and nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry âPatâ Petersen, brother Lester (Lavonne) Leidal, sister Betty (Bruce) Reed, twin sister Ellen Mae (Charles) Boyer, and brother-in-law Ralph Sigurdson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Good Samaritan Society, or the Mayo Clinic Hospice.
