Marvyl Conlan

Marvyl Sorenson Conlan died on April 24, 2020, in her home. Surrounded by loved ones, she left this Earth calmly and quietly. A native of Albert Lea, Marvyl was the daughter of the late Alma Jacobsen Sorenson and Ernest Sorenson. She enjoyed a happy childhood with her sister, Marlene. Reflections of the Jacobsen family’s Freeborn farm and their family dinners remain favorite stories through the generations. They remain a family of great strength in memory.

 Marvyl and William Conlan married in 1951 and shared a busy life, raising two children and living in both Albert Lea and in the country. Their years living near Helmer Myre State Park will forever be in the hearts of her children. A myriad of animals and adventures mark those extraordinary days of many pets, horseback riding, hiking, walking in the open spaces, outdoor cooking, friends, and family, and many thoughtful conversations and books.

A life filled with friends, travel, curiosity, many, many books, and dedicated caring for parents and family championed Marvyl’s full being. She was a loyal friend to many and a relentless inspiration to her children, encouraging their educations and passions.

Marvyl is survived by Daughter Amy Conlan Jordan of Chicago, grandson Jacob and his wife, Marta Saurina, of New York City, Son Brian Conlan and daughter-in-law Erica Johnson Conlan, granddaughter Mara and grandson Alex Bartlett, of Seattle.

She is also survived by a sister, Marlene DeVries, nephews and a niece, former husband, William Conlan, and several cousins.

Her beloved circle of friends include Roxann and the late Dennis Brue, Louise and Harry Attig, and their families and Silvia Ortiz, Marvyl’s Angel on Earth and companion, and her family, including Alma Talamantes.

Over the years, Marvyl enjoyed many long - term friendships and shared memories, despite the separation of miles and continents.

The family wishes to thank those who provided Marvyl gentle care during her intermittent stays at Thorne Crest Senior Living Community.

We will miss Mom’s wit and intelligence and love.  

A private gathering is planned for a later date.
