Martin Joseph Nelson

September 27, 1920 — April 19, 2013

Martin Joseph Nelson was born on September 27, 1920 in Ramona, South Dakota the son of Carl and Martha (Olson) Nelson.  Martin was raised near Ramona where he attended and graduated from high school.  On March 7, 1950 he was united in marriage to Verina Ruth Jensen at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison, South Dakota. Martin farmed with his family near Ramona and he was the Farm Manager for the Hubbard Milling Company in Springfield, Minnesota. Martin and Verina relocated to Albert Lea, Minnesota in 2009. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, having visited every state in the continental US. He enjoyed just about everything in life, but particularly flower gardening, “windshield farming” and his daily trips around Fountain Lake and Albert Lea Parks.  Martin enjoyed fishing and jet skiing and was a loyal fan of the Freeborn County Fair.  He enjoyed listening to Big Band music and watching CDs of old family photos.  Martin was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Pickerel Lake and the Luther Place Condo Association Board. Family was very important to Martin. He also enjoyed being a good neighbor to all his fellow condo residents.
Survivors include his wife, Verina, Albert Lea, children; Cheryl (Ben) Schultz, Apple Valley, MN., Bob (Donna) Nelson, Alden, MN., Roger (Cindy) Nelson, Gilbert, MN., and Craig (Kristen) Nelson, Hoffman Estates, Illinois.  Grandchildren; Sarah (Brian) Hensley, Rachael (Matt) Korman, Ryan Nelson and Leah Nelson.  Great Grandchildren; Weston and Bennett Korman and many extended family members.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Grace Ring, Ole Nelson, Carl Nelson and Angeline Hanneman.
