Mark Douglas McIntyre, age 73, of Albert Lea, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Mayo Clinic Hospital – St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Green Lea in Albert Lea.
Mark Douglas McIntyre was born on the family farm on December 31, 1951 in Bismarck, ND, to Hugh and Luella (Papke) McIntyre. He had two brothers, of which he was the middle child. After his father’s death in 1963, the family moved to Albert Lea. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1970 and immediately joined the Army. He served for four years in the medical corps learning how to perform radiographic procedures. He took what he learned and went to Iowa to get a master’s degree in radiology. With this degree he worked as a radiologist at St. Vincent’s in Indiana for many years before eventually joining the state medical board. After he retired from his medical career, he moved back to Albert Lea where he worked part time at Bomgaar’s for ten years. In 2008 Mark met Carolyn Vangen, who later became his significant other.
Mark was a man of many hobbies, but his favorite was golf. He went out to the green at every opportunity and when he wasn’t playing he would watch the major golf tournaments. He also enjoyed fishing and watching Football and Basketball, and he would make time to hang out with his buds at Green Lea.
Mark is survived by his significant other Carolyn Vangen, his sons Travis (Jennifer) McIntyre, Matthew (Jennifer) McIntyre, and Jeffrey (Chris) Sanvik, his daughter Amanda (Brian) Whitney, grandchildren Lilly, Ty, Jax, Jaxon, Ada, Claire, Will, Owen, Connor, and Carson, his brothers Ron (Kris) McIntyre and Dan (Cheryl) McIntyre, and many close friends.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Luella McIntyre.
