Marjorie Thompson

August 20, 1923 — July 11, 2010

Marjorie Stacia Thompson was born on August 20, 1923 to Martin and Marvyle Stokker Lysne. She was a life long resident of Freeborn County. Marjorie was baptized, confirmed and married in the Oakland Church and attended the Devereaux school. On February 15, 1942 she was united in marriage to Palmer Thompson. After several moves Marjorie and Palmer made their home on "the farm" by Clarks Grove. Marjorie devoted her life to raising her 5 children, working on the farm and serving her church. She enjoyed surrounding herself with family and friends. In her 50's Marjorie became a breast cancer survivor. She was an active member of Central Freeborn Lutheran Church and over the years served as Sunday school superintendent, was active in circle, Ladies Aid, Altar Guild and sang in the choir. Among the things Marjorie loved were the color red, square dancing, growing flowers, dressing up for Halloween to fool family and friends, taking trips and bus tours with Palmer, collecting rocks, hosting "tea parties" for her grandchildren, gardening, and baking. She had a wide reputation as a terrific cook and baker. As the Alzheimer's progressed, she and Palmer moved into Albert Lea where she was cared for at home by Palmer, assisted by sister-in-law, Beverly Thompson and later her oldest son Steven, who moved home to help with her around-the- clock care. The family would like to express special thanks to Bev Thompson and all the hospice workers who gave such wonderful care and support.
