Marie Juliett Peterson

Marie Juliett Peterson was born on September 18, 1910 to Andrew and Carrie Nelson Madison in LaSalle, IL. She grew up in the Matawan area and graduated from New Richland High School in 1928. Marie married Harvey D. Peterson on March 14, 1936 in New Richland, MN. The couple farmed in the New Richland area until moving to Portland, OR. In the 1960’s they owned and operated the States Motel in Portland, OR. Later they returned to Minnesota and Marie worked for a while at the JC Penny store. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland, the Naeve Hospital Auxilary and the Broadway Unit in New Richland. Marie was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing, music and dancing. Survivors include her daughters, Janet Newell of Portland, OR. and Judy Vernon Laite, Jr. of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Jeff Newell, Jim Rachael Newell, Jon Newell, Jodie Kevin Pranke, and Jackie Kevin Weigel; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Alissa, and Adam Newell, Jessica Newell, Isaac Newell, Wes, Braydon, and Ashley Bodkin, Paige and Robbie Weigel, Jamie Laite, and Jackson and Justin Purdie; great-great-grandchild, Steven Laite; and sister, Marjorie Schwenke. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey D. Peterson; a son in infancy; and brother James Madison.
