Marian Melissa Thompson

Marian Melissa (Borland) Thompson passed away on August 31, 2024 at the age of 102 and 6 months.

Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove, MN on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Marian was born on February 24, 1922 to Archie and Anna (Putman) Borland in Hampton, Iowa. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1942. She married Robert S. Thompson on July 24, 1942 in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Bob and Marian raised nine children on a farm in the Clarks Grove area. They traveled across the country attending various conventions and enjoyed many winters in Arizona.

Marian was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove for many years. She collected pink depression dishes, various bells, along with pictures and knick knacks of Holstein cows. Marian always had the coffee ready with a plate of cookies and cinnamon rolls for anyone who stopped in to visit. Saturday mornings were a tradition for the family to get together at Mom’s and share their family news. Marian enjoyed putting on costumes for the trick or treaters on Halloween and her Santa Claus suit on Christmas Eve for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For many years, Marian tended to her flower garden and tomato plants. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid fan of the Twins and Vikings. 

Survivors include her children; Eugene (Andrea) Thompson, Duane Thompson (Cathy Solberg), Charlotte (Ben) Barrentine, Nathan Thompson (Barb Reed), Leslie (Gretchen) Thompson, Linda (Kevin) Kelly, Marvin Thompson and Everett (Karina) Thompson. Also 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Thompson, son Roger Thompson, daughter-in-law Kristine Thompson and grandson Ross Thompson. Also her brother T. Dean (Dode) Borland, sister Lois (Paul) Madzia, brother-in-law William (Dorie) Thompson and sister-in-law Dorothy (Glenn) Reed. And numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clarks Grove Cemetery or the St. Croix Hospice.

The family would like to thank Embrace Home Care and the St. Croix Hospice for taking excellent care of Mom.
