Margaret "Margie" MacKay

September 8, 1927 — May 1, 2011

Funeral services for Margaret Genevieve MacKay, age 83, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011 at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church.  Father James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate.  Interment will be at St. Theodore’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 4th at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.  

Margaret died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at her home.

Margaret Genevieve MacKay was born on September 8, 1927 to Henry and Mary (Carey) Lair in Albert Lea.  She attended Emmons High school for three years and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1945.  On June 11, 1951 she was united in marriage to Joseph MacKay in Albert Lea.  Margaret was employed as a sales clerk at Gilbertson Furniture.  She was a member of St. Theodore’s Catholic Church and active in CCW.  Margaret was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. Margaret played on the same 500 club for 49 years.  She enjoyed caring of others and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins.  Blessed be her memory.

Survivors include her children Mike MacKay of Faribault and Cindy and Dave Seemann of Rochester; grandchildren Molly MacKay of Faribault and Michael MacKay of Faribault; great grandchildren Riley and Madeline; brothers Francis and wife Dorothy Lair of Burnsville and Pat and wife Verliss Lair of Albert Lea, sisters Betty Martinson of Emmons and Eileen Hengesteg of Lake Mills, IA; and many, many LOVED nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Gert Lair; husband Joseph MacKay; sister Maxine; brother Bussy Lair; sister-in-law Pearl Lair; and brothers-in-law LeRoy Martinson and Ernie Hengesteg.
