Marcella Ruth Claassen was born October 2, 1905, to John and Lorraine Fisher Kough in LeRoy, MN. She attended Taopi School and lived with her aunt on the family farm. On May 4, 1929, Marcella was united in marriage to Herman Claassen in Vinton, IA. The couple lived in LeRoy, Glenville, and Albert Lea before moving to Alden in 1950. Marcella cleaned homes in Emmons, Alden, and Albert Lea. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Alden and active in church circles and the United Methodist Women. Marcella was involved with the American Red Cross for 25 years and was in charge of the Canteen for 15 years. She enjoyed reading and crocheting and was the distributor of the "Upper Room." Survivors include her daughter, Betty Anderson of Albert Lea; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Kuchera of Glenville; sisters-in-law, Jewel Rudd of Spring Valley, Donna Winkels of Austin and Rosie Holman of Lime Springs, IA; nieces and nephews; and special care givers, Bud and Janice Johnson. Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman, son-in-law, George Anderson, brother, Tom Kough; and grandson, Gary Anderson.
