Funeral services for LuVern Purdy, age 94, of Alden will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. The Rev. Greg Ofsdahl will officiate. Interment will be in the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-600 p.m. Sunday at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
LuVern died on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Society.
LuVern Purdy was born on April 12, 1921 in rural Alden, the son of Frank and Zelpha (Decker) Purdy. On September 28, 1946 LuVern was united in marriage to Olive Gordon in Albert Lea. LuVern was a farmer all of his life and enjoyed mechanical work, building things, and restoring old tractors. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his sons Albert (Carol) Purdy and Frank (Ann) Purdy; grandchildren Krista (Noel) Ahnemann, Kelly (Paul) Kleven, Dale Purdy, Ben (Amy) Purdy, and Gloria (Jason) Heidemann; greatgrandchildren Becca and Mikinley Ahnemann, Caleb, Spencer, and Elianna Kleven, Kane and Landen Purdy, Jager, Gavin, and Grace Heidemann; sister-in-law Bev Gordon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
LuVern was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Olive, brother Roy (Helen) Purdy, sister Betty (Lloyd) Petersen, and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
