Lillian Thompson was born September 22, 1911, to Bendik and Hulda Erickson Holstad in Ypsilanti, ND. She moved with her family to Worth County, IA, when she was six years old. Lillian worked on the family farm and also as a homemaker for several other families. On January 9, 1936, she was united in marriage to Jewell Thompson in Hampton, IA. Lillian enjoyed playing cards, especially with her family, cooking, baking, crocheting, and sewing. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Eagle's Auxiliary, and the Neighborhood Birthday Club. Lillian also sang with her sisters as "The Holstad Sisters" and played the piano by ear. She entertained the staff and residents at the Home until the last year. Survivors include her husband, Jewell of Albert Lea; children Judean "Geno" and wife, Carol, Gary and wife, Sandy, Lou Jean and husband, Gordy Nelson, all of Albert Lea, Jerome and wife Jen of Harker Heights, TX, and Hertha and husband, Denny Steckelberg of Gillette, WY; grandchildren: DeeAnn and Rod Westrum, Lisa and Tim Shiley, Steven and Julia Thompson, Scott and Marnie Thompson, Michael Thompson, Rhonda and Jim Jensen, Julie Patino, Sue and Brad Walters, Brenda and Vince Madson, Dean and Missi Thompson, Rodney Thompson, Brian Mondido, Dawn Broitzman, and Jeff and Cari Broitzman; 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandsons; and sisters: Luella and husband, Curtis Leidal, Burnett and husband, Leon Sanderson, Mildred Patterson, and Idena Hagen. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Marvin and wife, Fern Holstad, Irving and wife, Dorothy Holstad, and Aldon Holstad; sisters: Julia and husband, Gerhard Stumo, Gilma Holstad, and Evelyn and husband, Roy Gordon; and brothers-in-law, Max Patterson and Stanley Hagen.
