LeVerne Carlson was born September 9, 1913, to Lewis and Hannah Johnson Carlson in Carlston Township. He graduated from Alden High School in 1930. LeVerne worked at several occupations before entering the Army. He served in Alaska as Mess Steward at Administrative Noncommissioned Office and served a second tour of duty as M/Sgt. In November 1946. He also served with the 9960th Hospital Train Unit, Staton Island, NY and at Oliver General Hospital in Augusta, GA. LeVerne purchased the Shoe & Harness Repair Shop from Reinhart Maas around 1954 and started Alden Shoe & Clothing. He operated the store for over 50 years until a stroke made it unable for him to continue and sold the store to Steve & Deanne Peterson, who continue to operate it as Alden Shoe & Clothing. LeVerne has given very generously to a new addition on the Alden school building to be built in the near future. He has also supported the area Youth for Christ, many Alden organizations, and several missions. Survivors include his nieces: Pearl Richard Thunstedt, Ramona Peterson, Mary Lou Robert Jacobson, and Jean Boothe; and nephews, Roger Char Peterson and Ross Joan Moyer. LeVerne was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Eveline Enoch Peterson, Lillian Glen Gray, and Alma Ferris Moyer; niece, Betty Roach; and nephews: Richard Peterson, Robert Gray, Jerome Moyer, Gordon Moyer, and Dalis Moyer.
