Funeral services for Leona M. Sauer, age 94 of Albert Lea, MN., will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Pastor Kent Otterman will officiate. Leona died on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems, Albert Lea.
Leona Mae Sauer was born on May 26, 1921 in Alden Township the daughter of Henry and Delia (Hegberg) Schaudt. She attended and graduated from Alden High School and then attended Hamilton Business School. Leona was bookkeeper for several automobile dealerships in the area and retired as the office manager from Albert Lea Freezer Warehouse. On April 29, 1943 she was united in marriage to Orville Sauer at Walters, MN. The couple enjoyed traveling to many different states, taking casino trips and wintering in Texas and spending the summer in Grand Marais, MN. Leona enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her children: Roxanne (George) Koolmo, Champlin, MN., Carla (Charlie) Granholm, Austin, MN., and John Sauer, St. Paul, MN. Son-in-law, Veryl Schewe, Alden, MN., grandchildren: Allen (Michele) Schewe, Brett Schewe and partner Maxine Wurtz, Stephen Schewe, Thomas Schewe and Aaron Granholm. Great-grandchildren; Daniel Baker, Tyler Mitchell, Nathan Schewe, Owen Granholm and Eva Granholm. In-laws: Betty Kalis, Ralph (Carole Staelgrave) Sauer, Barb (Wayne) Enderson and Clair (Lois) Sauer. Many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, infant son at birth, husband Orvile âBudâ Sauer, daughter, Kathleen Schewe, son-in-law John Duggan, brother, Carl Schaudt, sisters; Ardis (Leon) Howser, Maxine (Howard) Sweet and Virginia (Orville) Hoeg. In-laws: Verneta and Ralph Reindal and Francis Kalis.
Memorials preferred to the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center or Pancreatic Cancer Research.
