Leo William Carey was born on June 29, 1924 to James and Margaret Doyle Carey in Albert Lea. He grew up in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army during WWII on the European front. On January 13, 1948 Leo was united in marriage to Elenora DeRaad in Albert Lea. The coupled moved to West St. Paul where Leo worked for the United States Postal service as a clerk. He returned to Albert Lea and retired from the postal service in 1980. Leo was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Leo Carey Post #56, and the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and gardening. After retirement Leo and Elenora enjoyed being snowbirds and spending winters in warmer climates. Survivors include his wife Elenora; daughters, Judy Carey of Washington and Ellen Larry Niebur of Clear Lake, IA; granddaughter, Carrie Jo Eric Eisnaugle of Orlando, Florida; grandson, Keith Sara Niebur of Bettendorf, IA; sister, Mary Ellen Larson of Illinois. Leo was preceded in death by his father, James Carey; mother, Margaret Carey; and brother, Richard Carey.
