Kermit Laverne Iverson, age 91, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, December 11 at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home. Reverend Mark Boorsma will be officiating. The Albert Lea American Legion and VFW will be providing military honors. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Kermit was born in Leroy, Minnesota on July 19, 1933, to Clifford and Juliette (Lewison) Iverson. He grew up in Leroy and graduated from Leroy High school in 1951. On February 5, 1954, Kermit joined the Army. He served at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX and the Ani-Aircraft and Guided Missile Center in Germany. After being honorably discharged on February 4, 1957, he was united in marriage to Wanda Johnson on June 20, 1959. The couple made their home in Albert Lea and had 4 children He worked at Emil Olson Construction and then for the City of Albert Lea Parks and Recreation Department. After Wanda’s death, Kermit later married Joann Dulas on October 13, 1990. Kermit continued to live in Albert Lea until the time of his death.
Kermit enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, joking with his family and he was an avid Vikings and Twins fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Kermit is survived by his wife, Joann Iverson; children, Kendra (Robert) Dumitrache, Kermit (Lisa Kay) Iverson Jr., Tamera (Allen) Rudy; Lisa Jane (Brad) Nelson, Debbie (Ron) Hanson, Joni Burns, LaRae Strom; grandchildren, Anthony Iverson, Alex (Rebecca) Hanson, Nick (Emily) Hanson, Scott Strom, Jade Burns (Randy Christianson), Casey Strom (Paola Castillo), Sam (Hunter) Loeher, Abby (Gunnar) Askegaard, Savannah (Kyle) Tyrrell, Kathryn Iverson, Griffin Nelson, Presley Duenes (Gavin Ignaszewski), Dane Duenes, Trenton Nelson, Andrei Dumitrache; Soren Nelson; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Barb Jackel and Jean Winjum; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; parents, Clifford and Julietta Iverson; brothers-in-law, Robert Winjum, Donald Jackel; nephews, Randy Winjum, John Scofield, and Jared Peck.
