Kathleen Ann Schmidt was born on April 12, 1954 in Albert Lea, to Alvin and Ora Rasmussen Schmidt. She was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Alden and was confirmed and was currently a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Kathy grew up in Alden and graduated from Alden High School in 1972. She attended Waldorf College in Forest City, IA for 2 years and then transferred to Luther College in Decorah, IA where she earned a BA in Music. After college, Kathy moved to Boston where she was a pipe organ builder with Fritz Noack. From there she moved to Houston, TX and worked for Visser-Rowan. While there, she earned her Master Pipe Organ Builder status. Kathy returned to the Alden area, and since has worked in the office at Herberger's, and most recently, she was employed in the office at Soy-Mor. Kathy especially enjoyed spending time with her brothers, sister, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed being by the water, reading, sailing, and making fancy chocolates. Survivors include her siblings, James Schmidt, Allen Donna Schmidt, Jeanne Dennis Gustafson, and Steven Jane Schmidt; nieces and nephews, Tim Mary Schmidt and their children Kara and Callie, Natalie Schmidt and daughter Jamie Dunham, Jeremy Schmidt and son Riddick, Bradley Melissa Gustafson and daughter Emma, Kristen Travis Wasmoen and children Elizabeth and Aivin, Chad Leah Schmidt and children Hailey and Jenna, Matthew Whitney Gustafson, Philip Amy Schmidt and son Layne, and David Schmidt; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents.
