Funeral services for Kathy Broberg, age 66 of Albert Lea, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Father Russell Scepaniak will officiate. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m., Friday, April 15. Visitation will be 4:00 â 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Kathy died unexpectedly Thursday, April 7, 2016 in Blooming Prairie.
Kathleen (Kathy) Broberg was born May 12, 1949 at St. Maryâs Hospital in Minneapolis, the daughter of Marcel and Patricia (Ringer) Dittrich. She attended Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School through 8th grade in Mound and graduated high school from St. Margaretâs Academy in Minneapolis. Kathy became a dental assistant in Wayzata. She married Thomas Broberg on October 16, 1971 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mound. Kathy was an organist at St. Victoria Catholic Church. In 1989, the family moved to Albert Lea where Kathy became an organist at St. Theodore Catholic Church. She also participated in the handbell and church choirs. Due to her interest in history and genealogy, Kathy visited Salt Lake City, Utah for research. She volunteered at the Carver County Historical Society. She was a collector of Precious Moments figurines and liked visiting the Precious Moments Chapel in Missouri. She enjoyed watching the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps, figure skating, and going to the casino.
Kathy is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Lee) Meili of Lakeville, MN and Megan (Nate Hubert) Broberg of Ramsey, MN; brother, Ritchie (Jarie) Dittrich of Minneapolis; sister, Mary (Brad) Footh of Lenexa, KS; brothers-in-law, James (Marlys) Broberg of Albert Lea and Philip (Jean) Broberg of Shoreview, MN; special friend, Lawrence Goodnature of Blooming Prairie; and nieces and nephews.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; parents; and brother, Mike Dittrich.
