Judith (Judy) Kay (Petersen) Nelson, age 80, of Albert Lea, formerly of Freeborn, passed away on November 13,2020.
Judy was born October 1, 1940 to Ardis and Arnold Petersen. She grew up in Alden, MN where she graduated from high school. She attended Mankato Commercial School.
On September 4, 1959, she married Curtis G Nelson. They were happily married for 61 years and raised 3 children. They farmed in Freeborn and Judy was very active in church activities. She was church organist for Cross of Glory Church in Hartland for several years. Most recently, Judy was in charge of putting together shows at Six Lakes Country Club in N Fort Myers, FL where she and Curt spent winters.
Judy had a variety of talents, including sewing and quilting. Many have received her quilts, all sewn with love. Judy also loved cooking for and spending time with family and friends. While she will be remembered for many things her love of God was especially strong. Curt and Judy were members of Crossroads Church in Albert Lea.
Judy is survived by husband Curt; children Deb (Ken) Meyer, Sue (Phil) Ferbuyt; grandchildren Dustin (Kirsten) Meyer, Derek (MacKenzie) Meyer, Kendra Meyer, Chelsey (John) Langner and Samantha Ferbuyt; great grandchildren Evelyn, Lucas, Jacob, Bennett and Solomon; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Steve and grandchild Whitney.
Due to Covid-19 and current restrictions, a private family service will be held with burial at Freeborn Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2021.
