Joseph D. Carlin

February 14, 1924 — July 20, 2011

Funeral services for Joseph Dennis Carlin, age 87, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2011 at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church with Military Honors accorded by Freeborn County area veteran’s organizations.  Father Tim Raker will officiate.  Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 26th at 11:30 a.m.  Visitation will be from 3-5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 24th at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. 

 

Joseph died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Good Samaritan Center.

 

Joseph Carlin was born on February 14, 1924 to Thomas and Mary (Maloney) Carlin in Preston, MN.  He grew up in the Preston area and graduated from Preston High School.  After school, Joseph served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.  On October 8, 1950 Joseph was united in marriage to Marie Ellen Kohlmeyer in Chatfield, MN.  Joseph worked for the Minnesota DOT as head slab inspector for 40 ½ years.  He was an active member of St. Theodore’s Catholic Church, the VFW, American Legion, Moose and Eagles Clubs.  Joseph served in the Freeborn County Honor Guard for many years and was proud to have gone on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in October of 2010.  He enjoyed pool, golfing at Green Lea, bowling, and deer hunting.  Joseph was also a member of the Freeborn County Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame.  Joseph especially loved watching his grandchildren playing sports.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

 

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marie; children, Thomas (Debbie) Carlin, Kevin (Diane) Carlin, Jody Carlin and Barry (Kim) Carlin; grandchildren, Camille (Steven) Brown, Kristina Carlin, Cale Carlin, Jace Carlin and Brady Carlin; great-grandson, Layne Brown; sisters, Helen Frank, Rose (Beacher) Elam and Patricia Carlin; sister-in-law, Esther Carlin; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Carlin; brothers Ray Carlin and Thomas Carlin; sisters, Mary (Merle) Sparks, Evelyn Marzlof, Irene (Vince) Tlougan and Gladys (Kenneth) Evenson; and brother-in-law, Alan Frank.
