John Vinus McGill was born January 7, 1915, to James Martin and Manoah May Wheeler McGill in Pansy, MO. The family moved to the Hollandale area in 1926. John served in the United States Army during WWII from 1941 - 1945 in the European- African-Middle Eastern Theater. He was a retired farmer and lived in Austin for many years after his retirement. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, traveling, and spending time at his summer home on Lake Mazaska and winters in San Juan, TX. He had lived at Senior Court in Albert Lea the past 9½ years. Survivors include his sons, Orrin and wife, Pam McGill of Andover, MN, and Allen and wife, Karen McGill of Albert Lea; his special friend, Chris Gries; grandchildren: Ian McGill of Andover, Clint McGill of Albert Lea, Jesse McGill of Crested Butte, CO, Casey Mc Gill of Albert Lea, and Mariah McGill of Albert Lea; sister, Lula Stecker of Washington; and brother, Laurence McGill of Albert Lea. John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Earl McGill, Albert McGill, Wilbur McGill, and Basil McGill; and sisters: Esther Gooden, Nell Jones, Georgia Henderson, and Opal Rietveld Goodnature.
