John Louis DeVries was born January 21, 1932 in Albert Lea to Henry and Edith (Ashworth) DeVries. Jack grew up in Hollandale and graduated from Albert Lea High School. On December 1, 1951 Jack was united in marriage to Marlene Sorenson in Albert Lea. Together they made their home in rural Hollandale where Jack farmed for many years before starting his business, DeVries Manufacturing. For several years Jack was a member at the Hollandale Reformed Church where he was active in the choir. Most of all Jack enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Marlene; children Clair (Peggy) DeVries, Robin DeVries, Kim (Connie) DeVries and Lee (Shelly) DeVries; daughter-in-law Jan DeVries; grandchildren Aaron (Regina) DeVries, Megan (Brian) Schleicher, Christopher (Nancy) DeVries, Sarah Lassise, Mandy (Adam) Ewald, Caleb (Sara Anderson) DeVries, Natasha DeVries, Marina DeVries, Nicholas DeVries, Abbey (Erick) Palacios, Ben (Melissa Lee) DeVries, Jordan DeVries and Sadie DeVries; great-grandchildren Aidan and Cecelia DeVries, Cyprus, Jaylee, Ella and Emery Schleicher, Natalee, Payson, Lauren and Callie DeVries, Grace Estey and Maya Palacios; sisters Dorothy Stegenga, Carol (Jay) Hadlock and Joyce Reynen; brother-in-law Bill (Mischa) Conlan; sister-in-law Marvyl Conlan and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; sister Sue and brothers-in-law Elmer Stegenga and Dave Reynen.
