John Allen Dahl was born November 2, 1926, to Carl and Hilda Olson Dahl in Freeborn County. He graduated from Freeborn High School. John served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1946 - 1948. On January 28, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marvyl I. Christiansen at the First Lutheran Church. John farmed all his life and was also employed at Donovan Grain & Feed and Farmstead for many years. He was a member of the VFW and Central Freeborn Lutheran Church, where he had been a member of the Church Council, head usher, and a member of the cemetery board. John had also been a 4-H leader and enjoyed sports of all types, especially playing golf. John and Marvyl enjoyed their years traveling with Orville and Sharon Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Marvyl; children: Marcia and husband, Ken Kocuiba and their daughter, Kelly; Gail and husband, Charlie Sheridan and their children: Anna, Jonathon, and Jenna; Jayne and husband, Nick Heupel and their children: Benjamin, Samuel, and Jennifer; and Christopher and wife, Holly Dahl and their children, Jade, Jessa, and Weston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Omar and wife Donna Dahl and Chester and wife, Jewell Dahl; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and husband, Harold Mouw; sister-in-law, Norma Demmer; and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Hilda Dahl; his mother and father-in-law, Einer and Florence Christiansen; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Lorraine Dahl; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Melroy Nelson; and brother-in-law, Lester Demmer. John was very proud of his children and grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorials are preferred to The Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
