Joe Margarito Gallegos was born September 29, 1929, to Francisco and Antonia Davila Gallegos in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He later moved to Albert Lea to live with his brother, Filiberto Cruz and family. On March 29, 1967, Joe was united in marriage to Marie Merrill in Wisconsin. In 1960, he started at and worked for the Rock Island Railroad until 1981. Joe then worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed boxing as a younger man, gardening, fishing, and spending time at the "Y" and with his family. Joe was a member of the Eagle's and the Church of St. Theodore. Survivors include his wife, Marie; daughters, Cindy Gallegos of Minneapolis and Tammi Gallegos of Clarks Grove; brothers, Manuel and wife, Eloisa Gallegos and Pedro and wife, Josefina Gallegos, all of Monterrey, Mexico; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his three cats. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Panchito and Filiberto; and sisters, Guadalupe and Leonor.
