Jean Legried was born October 28, 1938 to Verner and Wilma Schilling in Austin, MN.  She attended grade school at District 138 and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1956.  She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  On June 29, 1962 she was united in marriage to Peder Legried at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  In the 1960’s and 70’s Jean was very active in the “Friendly Handicapped Club” and was instrumental in helping make Albert Lea handicap accessible thru Access Albert Lea.  Jean has always had an interest in history and family and combining the two has led to her involvement in genealogy.  She founded and served as first president of the Freeborn County Genealogical Society and also served several terms on the Minnesota Genealogical Society.  Jean was proud that she was on the Norway list for genealogy also.  For many years Jean was very active in the American Lutheran Church women where she held several offices.  Jean was a member of the Oakland Lutheran Church and she served as the editor of the newsletter there.  Jean was also the editor of Vestlandlag Magazine.  Jean and Peder traveled to Norway and England in 1987 but she traveled the rest of the world via the internet on her computer.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  Blessed be her memory.

Survivors include her son Virgil (Michele) Legried of Oakland; grandchildren, Cody & Chelsey Legried of Albert Lea; and many friends.
