On April 24, 1994, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Estherville, Iowa. Jay attended grade school and middle school in Estherville, Iowa, and moved with his family to Albert Lea, Minnesota, on March 30, 1994. He was a 2000 graduate of Albert Lea High School. He graduated from the construction electrician program at Riverland Community College in may 2002 and then enrolled in the water quality science program at Vermilion Community College in Ely, Minnesota. One of the happiest days of Jay's life was September 10, 2005, when he was united in marriage to Stacy Weisinger at the Ely United Methodist Church. Jay was an avid outdoorsman hunting ducks, geese, pheasants, bear, and deer in four states. He spent much time researching on his own the habitat and species of wildlife. He participated in shooting sports at the Minnesota Horse & Hunt Club, Waseca Sportsmen's Club, and the Winton Sportsmen's Club. He loved hunting with his friends, but especially with his Dad, his hunting partner, who hunted and fished with him since he was three years old. He was a member and contributor to Ducks Unlimited. He was involved with the Water Club and Wingshooters Club at Vermilion Community College and was a member of Amateur Trapshooting Association. He competed and placed in the Fish & Wildlife regional and state FFA competitions during his high school years. Survivors include his loving wife, Stacy of Waseca; parents, Rick and Bonnie Ashling of Albert Lea; and one sister, Jana Ashling of Mankato; grandmother, Peggy Ashling of Marshall; and one uncle, Jack Ashling of Marshall; mother-in-law, Barb Weisinger of Winton; father-in-law, Neil Weisinger of Winton; sister-in-law, Jenny Weisinger of Coon Rapids; brothers-in-law, Wesley Weisinger and Darrin Weisinger of Winton; and many cousins and friends. Driscoll of the Mayo Clinic for his excellent managed care and concern for Jay for the past 24 years.
