Janiece Gordon

Janiece Gordon, 98, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023 at the St. John’s Campus on Fountain Lake in Albert Lea, MN.  A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Vicar Ashley Kuhlman will be officiating.

Janiece Gordon was born in Northwood, Iowa to John and Madge Sime on August 10, 1925.  She was confirmed at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church and attended school in Northwood.  She married Warren Gordon on September 21, 1947.    They had four children, 2 girls and 2 boys.  Together they owned and operated Gambles Hardware store in Albert Lea.  When she wasn’t putting in hours at the store, she loved to cook, and her roast beef and mashed potatoes were a family favorite.  She also enjoyed sewing, embroidering dish towels, and creating beautiful hardanger, a traditional Norwegian embroidery. She was always gifting her creations to family and friends.  She was an independent lady, fixing things around the house.  Many fond memories were made during the holidays over a bowl of Rommegrot or oyster stew.

Janiece is survived by her children Gary (Helena Myers) Gordon, Jane (Jim) Ertl, and Karen (Jim) Gold.  Grandchildren Elyah (Julie) Gordon, Bryn (Mark Butorac) Gordon, Jon (Paula) Ertl, Jason Ertl, Eric (Britt) Gold, Brianna (Bryce Williams) Gold.  Great-Grandchildren James, Eloise, Benjamin, Colter, Sophia, Emri, Callen and Maddox; along with Brother Dale Sime, and Sister-in-law Elaine Sime and many nieces and nephews.

Janiece is preceded in death by her husband Warren Gordon; parents John and Madge Sime; son Steven, sister Dorothy, and brother Donald.
